Questions You’ve Asked: Sovereign Queen vs. Queen Esther

A customer asks for guidance on choosing between Sovereign Queen and Queen Esther oils.

For a general “women’s empowerment/success” formula, I’d probably go with Sovereign Queen and reserve Queen Esther for particular situations/settings. Queen Esther oil is great for when you need to go into a situation with poise and intelligence, definitely, and though the ingredients are different, with it not being a hoodoo oil, it almost has a similar “vibe” to Look Me Over, Check Me Out oil, in that it draws eyes toward you and helps ensure that gaze is an admiring one.

Queen Esther does all that, but there are lots of elements of your empowerment and success more generally as a woman where that might not be the most important or appropriate thing. I can think of times, in fact, where you don’t want to draw everybody’s gaze during the course of business as a woman. And Sovereign Queen heavily emphasizes the sovereignty, the autonomy, independent strength and ability to succeed. Sovereign Queen is really almost more a mastery and success blend for women, focused largely on the woman herself as the target rather than on the eyes of beholders as the targets, if that makes sense.

So they are certainly complementary, or can be, but Sovereign Queen is more a day-to-day formula for a woman with important things to do who needs a certain commanding element – not compelling, but commanding, which in hoodoo formula parlance is about having people do your bidding because they want to, because they admire you and trust your ability to lead or ideas or whatever. so you don’t have to dominate them – they follow you willingly and respect you.

Now if I were working in a business setting and had an important meeting coming up at which I needed to pitch a new idea to a roomful of people, some of whom I maybe didn’t already know, that’s when I might use Queen Esther, as part of my preparations for the presentation or pitch or whatever and on the day of and during any business dealings related to it. Sovereign Queen can amp up your “attractiveness level” to others, but it does so in a complex, not superficial way – it’s not a lust oil or a love oil or anything. Queen Esther doesn’t have to be – it will get in step with your intention and the “level” you’re using it on – but it is definitely designed to attract attention when, in some way or another, this is “your show”, if that makes sense.

So if you read the story literally in its focus on increasing beauty and allure, you may certainly use the oil in your workings towards that purpose.

Those who read the Book of Esther allegorically use this sort of formula as a blessing oil for any special occasion in a woman’s life, such as engagement, marriage, or the start of any new important undertaking when all eyes will be on her and she can benefit from some of Esther’s poise and intelligence.

In esoteric practice, some read Esther as emblematic of the soul and the king as a symbol for G-d. In that reading, the months-long beauty preparations that Esther underwent reflect the necessary preparations the soul must undergo before approaching the Divine. Thus this formula can be used for ritual, prayer, and devotion, either for a specific working or more generally towards purity and beauty of heart and soul and completely apart from any earthly gender or sex considerations.

While this oil is made with biblical/esoteric correspondences rather than traditional conjure ones, it won’t clash or conflict with them and it can certainly be used alongside hoodoo formulas if you want to do that.

Or rather, the ingredients to make them are back in stock. I had a bit more trouble than I’d expected finding a good, reliable supplier for the right kind of diamond powder who was in the U.S. and whose ethics I could be sure of (’cause none of my formulas call for conflict diamonds and child mining labor). The supplier I used to use isn’t around anymore.

I’ve finally found another good one in the U.S., but shipping isn’t as fast as it used to be, and prices certainly aren’t going down, heh, so I only ever have a limited quantity of raw materials on hand to make Ultimate oils.

If you see all of them out of stock, that means I’m out of diamonds and/or gold and/or some spendy essential oil or absolute and we’re just waiting on my shipment. In traditional old-school conjure, mullein or whatever is NOT an adequate substitute for graveyard dirt; Black Arts formulas do NOT have “hints of autumn leaves and pumpkin accords at the heart note” and do NOT smell like perfume; condition and ritual oils are NOT “charged under a full moon” because that doesn’t make any flippin’ sense; and there aren’t any pagan gods or goddesses involved in the creation of this oil – especially not any who really, really like glitter and lilac or gardenia. “Lucky Stars Sweet Jar” Community Altar Service: Jupiter in Pisces (May 13-May 31)

Work begins Thursday, May 13th, but this altar setting will be worked and available for the whole time Jupiter is in Pisces this go-round — about 2.5 months, until July 28th — so you absolutely can jump in late as long as you see slots still available.

This round or phase runs through the end of May, but you’ll have the option of booking/renewing/extending for the next round with no interruption a little closer to that date. My goal is to try to speak to everyone participating in the initial phase before the end of the month to work with them on articulating, identifying, imagining, obtaining, and/or creating their own very particular and very personal “lucky stars Jupiter good luck charm” that they can have going forward. This will be potentially quite time consuming work that I’m not being compensated for, so that’s why I want to bookend it with a definite cut-off date.

What’s This For?

So this is a great opportunity to sow some seeds now for what you’d like to see take flight in this realm next year when Jupiter spends most the year in Pisces. Jupiter’s at home in Pisces, so this is great big benevolent Jupiter energy – wisdom, the intuitive search for the truth, spirituality. We can get a booster shot of faith and optimism now that we’ve finally gotten shut of some Saturn energy that’s been weighing on us for a couple of years now. And Jupiter in Pisces is just plain lucky – an excellent “good luck charm” transit. What’s kind of rare here is that Neptune is also in Pisces at this time, and together, Jupiter and Neptune co-rule that sign. Jupiter’s urge towards expansiveness and Neptune’s urge towards larger social and mystical vision can combine for some crazy big magical opportunities, especially those related to Neptune’s wheelhouse.

You don’t apply for certain types of jobs because (fill in your demographic) never gets those jobs? *This is when you should flout the odds and apply anyway.* Nobody in your family has a lick of psychic ability and you’ve always thought your tarot cards might be deliberately messing with you? *Time to call them on it and figure out what’s going on.* Found your dream home but your annual income is missing a few zeroes you’re sure you’d need to get financing? *They just might overlook that strictly by the book stuff this time* – might as well ask Jupiter to send a little of that expansive benevolence your way.

Pay What You Can

Because Saturn and COVID both have been kinda breathing down our necks and trying to crowd everything else out of our spaces for a while now, I’m offering this as a pay what you can service.

If you can pay the regular rate, great! If things are finally looking up for you and you can afford to pay the extra donation rate, or you want to make a donation to fulfill a vow of offering to a saint or spirit, that donation rate helps offset some of the costs I’m absorbing otherwise.

But if not, no worries – if you or someone you know needs a booster shot of Jupiter luck and abundance but money’s tight, it’s fine to book the reduced rate option – that’s what it’s there for. As long as I have a solid handful of participants and I can at least break even on materials used/consumed in performing the work, I don’t mind donating some of my time to help folks who are in a tight spot and need some help.

How It Works

This service will be conducted somewhat like a honey jar, though the container will be containing other things specific to these planetary energies. But much like a honey jar, your petition and any personal concerns you send (e.g. photos, documents) will be added to the jar and the jar worked on a very specific schedule for the entirety of the time period covered by the service.

Once I’ve got everything set up, I’ll send out a notification email that will contain an invitation to the client Discord server if you’d like to join. That’s where in-progress photos and discussion can happen. (I don’t discuss workings in progress or send updates on an individual basis to participants in community altar work, but I will join a conversation or answer questions that are posed on the client Discord server.)

You’ll also get a link to my client calendar. It will show you key dates and times that you might choose to take advantage of on your own, as well. For instance, you might want to time a spiritual bath to coincide with a planetary day/hour or astrological event. I will occasionally make suggestions for things like this, too.

If you want to book on behalf of a friend or loved one, that’s fine for this type of work, even if they don’t know about it.

I will set the first light on the prepared jar on the evening of Thursday, May 13th, so it’s ideal to get your petition in before then. However, there is plenty of wiggle room and you *can* join up after the work starts.
